App Review: Circle of 6

Circle of 6Personal safety is something that is really important to me and what is something I usually have access to that makes me feel safe? Well, my phone, of course. An app has been created for our phone for the sole purpose of helping us FEEL and BE safe, and no biggie, but it’s FREE! Circle of 6 is probably one of the best things to come into my life, as far as feeling secure goes. I am not even joking.

Here is what it looks like and how it works.  The first thing it will have you do is choose six of your closest friends and/or family members. I personally chose my two roommates, my mom, my dad, my sister and my boyfriend. If you are not close to six people, you can choose one person and have them in all six spots.   If you choose the emergency button at the top it will pull up these options.

It will pull up the emergency options. These are used if you are in a real-full-blown emergency. They help you contact hotline numbers and local emergency teams or relationship advice if you feel unsafe in a current relationship.

When you click the button in the center three options will appear.
2 circle 6 The first is a location icon. This will automatically text your “Circle of 6” a text stating “Come and get me,” with your exact GPS location. This is especially helpful if you are in an unsafe situation where you feel that calling someone for help is unsafe, or if you do not know where you are.

3 circle 6The second is a phone call icon. This does not call anyone. It sends your circle a text saying, “Call and pretend you need me.” This is especially helpful if you are in a situation where you feel like you don’t want to be rude or conspicuous by calling someone and asking them for help.

The third icon is a message. It is a button that sends a text out to each contact saying, “I need to talk.” This is great if you need help or advice about a situation you are in without actually having to speak verbally to anyone.

Pros of Circle of 6:

  • It gives you peace of mind about your safety.
  • It gives your loved ones peace of mind about your safety.
  • It is free.
  • It has been endorsed by Vice President Joe Biden (holla!)
  • It is accessible almost anywhere.

Cons of Circle of 6:

  • If you don’t have service it doesn’t work.
  • Not every situation is phone-friendly.
  • What if none of your six see it right away?
